I was unaware of anything happening that day until I was informed of the situation around 7pm that evening. I had a flight booked to London Luton for 22:30 and as soon as I heard something was going on, I immediately consulted the easyjet.com website for further details.

I went to the live arrivals page and to my horror, I noticed that all flights coming into and leaving Barcelona were cancelled. I had a wedding to go to and as it is peak season, I began to worry. However, at this time, my flight was not listed on the arrivals page, so I maintained a glimmer of hope that things might sort themselves out at Barcelona airport and that my flight would still leave, albeit late. So just to confirm, I decided to call the customer help line. I waited over 20 minutes on the phone and after no-one answered, I decided to hang up. I believe the Spanish number (90 229 9992) is not a freephone number and I was charged at whatever rate was applicable.

As time went on, I noticed that flight arrivals nearing my flight time were appearing on the live flight arrivals page, so I continued monitoring. Then, I thought all my Christmases had come at once. At nearly 20:00, I noticed my flight 2270 Barcelona to London Luton, was coming up on the live arrivals page as 'On Time'. I decided to phone to check this. I again called the number and this time I was informed that all Barcelona flights were disrupted, please go the website to change your flight free of charge.

So I went to the easyjet site (my flight was still coming up as 'On Time'), and I followed the links from the home page article on the "Disruption of flights to/from Barcelona Airport 28th July 2006", and I started the procedure for changing my booking. I clicked on the 'choose alternative flight' option and to my amazement, my flight, 2270 Barcelona to London/Luton was coming up as an option. What could I deduce from this? The flight was still coming up as 'On Time' and also available on the 'transfer disrupted booking' page. But, according to easyjet, all flights in and out of Barcelona were cancelled.

In my opinion, when everything is going well and there are no problems, easyjet are a decent company to fly with. It's when there are any problems whatsoever, that they either offer no help, or they feed you contradictory information, if any at all.

I had no option but to go to the airport and when I arrived, it was jam packed full of people. I then heard announcements over the tannoy that some flights were still going to be leaving Barcelona airport that night. Was I going to be one of the lucky ones? No-one seemed to know for sure. I asked various ground staff who all seemed to say that nothing was leaving. But the tannoy announcements contradicted that. The place was total chaos. The queues were immense. There was a sense of inevitability in the air. I called my girlfriend at home who informed me my flight was still coming up as 'On Time' on the easyjet live arrivals page. I asked a few customers who informed me that there was now no flights to London until Tuesday, unless you got the train to Alicante and flew from there. Other people told me that there were no trains to Alicante as it is peak season.

I decided to cut my losses and return home in order to try and get another flight so I could get to the wedding. After a long and frantic phone call to my girlfried (who was patiently sat at home scouring the net for any flight to the UK), we were able to find a flight on ThomsonFly leaving Reus airport (1 and a half hours by train and then a taxi from Barcelona) and flying into Birmingham. I bought it for a mere ₤41, but might easily have spent up to ₤700 on a flight, as I simply could not miss the wedding.

Once again, Easyjet have failed to provide consistent information to their customers. I have taken screen prints of all the conflicting information from that day, should anyone wish to see it. I am yet to get through to customer services to ask for my refund - I would have thought that they would automatically reimburse anyone who did not change their flight, but in true easyjet style, this has not been the case.

easyconfusion, once again.

Easyjet Complaint number ezy2265 - Part II

I still haven't received an answer to my previous complaint which I sent to both the customer services department and the technical support department regarding the overcharging via the Easyjet website of my Visa Electron card, which in theory has a zero fat-cat charge.

It has now been 2 months since I submitted my complaint.

Easyjet Complaint number ezy2265

Easyjet Complaint number ezy2270

Easyjet are great when everything goes well, but when it doesn't (and this, in my opinion, has often been the case), they are awful.

My latest brush with the budget airline came when I returned to the UK on 10 May 2006 on Easyjet flight number ezy2270 back to London Luton, the red-eye flight, as our American friends would call it.

We got on the plane late and then sat there for a while, twiddling our thumbs until we eventually took off the seemingly obligatory 45 minutes late. Now as soon as we took off we were informed that as Luton airport usually closes, we might not make the midnight closing time and may have to land at Stanstead, but they would use "all [their] powers of negotiation" to try and get them to stay open until 12:15am, the projected landing time (after making up the usual 30 minutes that seem the extra they add on to all flights these days to keep the stats looking good). Once again they said they would keep us informed.

Just as we were starting our descent, the lady told us that unfortunately the airport was shut and that although they had tried, nothing could be done and we had to go to Stanstead where we would be taken in coaches to Luton. They told us that the "helpful" Easyjet ground staff would direct us all to the correct coach terminus.

We landed, shuffled to arrivals, through the gate, all looking for these helpful Easyjet ground staff. I ended up asking a window cleaner for help (and a very pleasant gentleman he was too), who guided me and a few other lost souls outside, through the underpass, around the carpark up to a Stanstead official who was pointing at a couple of rickety-looking vehicles in the dark corner of the Stanstead carpark. At not one time did I see anyone donning the familiar bright-orange jackets trying to help us on our way. We then had to endure an hours and a half journey through north London back to Luton Airport.

The lucky ones, that is, who managed to squeeze on the two coaches. I counted at least 15 people who didn't get on. I wonder how long they were there, dressed in their Barcelona summer gear, waiting in the dark, cold carpark of Stanstead airport, waiting for one of the coaches to reach Luton, turn around, return to Stanstead and take them back to Luton.

Come on Easyjet, with the money you must be making with the on-board easy-kiosk (which never seems to have exactly what you want - the 5 euro cans of Kronenberg were warm this time), why not try a little harder with the 'negotiation' and little less with the polite, but highly annoying excuses?

Easyjet Complaint number ezy2265

Whilst trying to pay for my latest flight between the UK and mainland Europe, I came across the latest in a string of what I can only refer to as 'easyjet complaints'. I have always used my VISA Electron card to pay for just about everything - in fact, I'm one of the few people who doesn't even own a credit card.

So you can imagine my happiness when I pay for my Easyjet flights and I am exempt from the 'fatcat' VISA credit card charge. In fact there is no charge for VISA Electron.

Until this time, that is.

I received the error code 'ip02itx' - my card number does not seem to match the type specified.

I returned to the previous page and tried again, but the same error message came up. I even went through the entire booking process again, in case I had done something wrong. But still no joy.

I then decided to try the other card types. I tried the VISA debit - no luck, and then I tried the VISA credit card.... I waited.... Your payment has been successful. And at an extra charge of 4.95 pounds sterling. Imagine my disgust.

Now I'm a programmer and I know that things like this are logical mathematical algorithms. There is no luck involved. There is no room for error. It happened that way because the program was told it was happening that way.

I have written to Easyjet to complain about the situtation - both to the technical support and the booking section (just in case one tells me it's not their responsibility and I contact the other). I await a reply.

Does anyone have any more easyjet complaints?
